Simple Pleasures

I've been thinking a lot about how much life has changed over the past year. I'm thankful to still be working my full time job as an Instructional Designer, from home. My kids are in PreK so while they're at school I'm able to work my FT job and manage my handmade art business. I spend most of my time at home. As an introvert, it's not half bad. Although I have been intentional about connecting with friends via Zoom to be sure that I don't spend all my time alone. A couple weeks ago I connected with a friend, and former colleague for lunch, via Zoom. Isn't it funny? We used to connect with one another for lunch in person. Remember those days? I thoroughly look forward to my Zoom lunches with my friend. It has become a welcomed simple pleasure. Other simple pleasures for me include enjoying a hot cup of coffee (usually the second cup, after the kids are off to school!), making a hot lunch (a benefit of my remote work of late), and fresh baked cookies.  I recognize that all these things involve eating.

To be fair, a simple pleasure that has risen to the top is making pretty things- things like table mats that can be enjoyed daily. It brings me immense joy to make these functional art pieces, and it brings me equal joy to send them out into the world to bring joy to others. I've been working on fabric collage the past couple weeks and I am really enjoying the organic nature of the process. I usually begin with one or two pieces of fabric, a certain motif, and I let the fabric lead the way.  I just added some of these pieces to my shop and I invite you to check them out.

What simple pleasures are you enjoying lately?

Laura
